What To Do in Anguilla

After hours, Anguilla heats up with the pulsating sounds of the Caribbean.

There’s always a choice of activities on Anguilla…day and night. Lazy beach days to rejuvenate your body and lift your spirit are just the beginning. Tour art galleries and museums, sail away to an offshore cay for a secluded picnic, shop in our unique boutiques and gift shops or horseback ride on the beach and in the Caribbean Sea…whatever your energy dictates is available to you on Anguilla and neighboring St. Martin. Each day of your visit can bring a different water sport adventure such as Night Kayaking, Kite Surfing, Stand-up Paddle Boarding, Aqua Park
Adventures, Glass Bottom Kayaking, or the solo pleasure of a shaded beach chair and that novel you’ve been waiting to read!

Eating is a big part of the Anguilla Experience! Anguilla offers more gourmet restaurants per square mile than New York City! Gastronomic pleasures abound on this 35 square mile island, from beach and road side fare to 5 star restaurants. See Anguilla Dining

After hours, Anguilla heats up with the pulsating sounds of the Caribbean. Reggae, soca and calypso can be heard pumping out from a number of local bars and nightclubs on weekends and throughout the week.  Anguilla’s nightlife can be best described as laid back fun where locals mix easily with visitors to create an unforgettable experience.  Be sure to learn how to dance island style!

And as the day melts into night, watch one of Anguilla’ spectacular sunsets unfold from the privacy and comfort of one of the many outdoor settings at Spyglass Hill Villa.

Getting to Anguilla

You can arrive in Anguilla by air or sea. Anguilla is a British Overseas Territory and is located in the Eastern Caribbean, just an eight-minute flight or 25-minute boat or ferry ride north of its closest neighbor, the Dutch/French island, St. Maarten/St. Martin (search for flights to SXM/Princess Julianna International Airport). Or fly direct to Anguilla (AXA) from Miami, Florida in the US (MIA); San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU); Antigua (ANU), St. Thomas (STT), the Dominican Republic (SDQ) or other islands to get here.   Our concierge can offer travel advice and arrange boat transfers, taxi, car services or car rentals. Once you arrive in Anguilla, Spyglass Hill Villa is only a 15-minute drive from either Blowing Point Ferry Terminal or the Anguilla Airport.  Our staff can arrange taxis or car rentals, which can be picked up at either port or delivered to you at Spyglass Hill Villa when you are ready to explore.

Flying Direct to Anguilla's Airport
Visitors can fly directly into Anguilla’s Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport (AXA) from International Gateway Dutch/French St. Maarten/St. Martin (SXM); San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU); Antigua (ANU), St. Thomas (STT), Dominican Republic (SDQ) and St. Barth's (SBH) or by private plane.  American Airlines now offers direct flights from Miami (MIA) to Anguilla (AXA).

Arriving via St. Maarten and Traveling to Anguilla by Sea or Air Transfer
Because it offers more flexibility, many guests choose to first fly to St. Maarten’s Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM), then take a 25-minute private or shared sea shuttle, or a 20-minute taxi ride followed by a 30-minute public ferry or arrange an eight-minute flight or air transfer to Anguilla.  Direct flights to St. Maarten originate in many US major cities, as well as Toronto, Paris, Amsterdam, Panama City, and San Juan.  If flying through a gateway like St. Maarten on your way to Anguilla, be sure to treat your trip as two legs when searching flights.  The first leg will be to SXM and then book a second, separate trip to Anguilla.  You will likely find better prices and more flight options.  From St. Maarten, local airlines such as Anguilla Air Services or Trans Anguilla Airways offer daily flights, including private charters, to Anguilla and may offer options that allow you to bypass customs in St. Maarten to get you on the beach faster.

Private & Shared Sea Shuttles from the Dutch Side St. Maarten
You can get to Anguilla by sea from our neighbor island St. Maarten/Martin via private or semi-private sea shuttle such as Calypso Charters AnguillaFuntimeGotcha or Link Ferry from the Dutch side (St. Maarten).  Guests must first clear Immigration and Customs in St. Maarten and then proceed to Anguilla. The trip takes about 25 minutes and includes a van transfer from the airport (SXM) to the boat dock across the street.  Reservations are required and you may save money by booking a round-trip ticket. You’ll arrive at Anguilla’s Blowing Point Ferry Terminal before the ice in your complimentary rum punch has melted.

Public Ferry from the French Side St. Martin
As an alternative, you can take a 20-minute taxi ride from the airport on the Dutch side (St. Maarten) to the Marigot Ferry Terminal on the French side (St. Martin) where you can travel to Anguilla via the scheduled public ferry. The schedule is as follows:

Departure times from Blowing Point, Anguilla are a follows:

  • 8:30am
  • 9:30am
  • 11:30am
  • 1:30pm
  • 3:30pm
  • 5:15pm

Departure times from Marigot, St. Martin, are as follows:

  • 9:30am
  • 10:30am
  • 12:30pm
  • 2:30pm
  • 4:30pm
  • 6:00pm

Passengers taking the ferry must have their names on the manifest 15 minutes prior to departure.  No advance reservations. The Ferry crossing is approximately 25 to 30 minutes between both Islands.

Arriving in Anguilla by Private Boat
Private boats are welcome. Contact us for details and logistics.

Entry Requirements
Anguilla has discontinued all COVID-19-related entry protocols.  A passport valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date, as well as return or onward tickets are also required for all visitors to enter Anguilla.  Be sure to bring your passport with you on any day trips to neighboring islands.  Additionally, citizens of certain countries will also need an entry visa.  Green card holders must have a valid green card and valid passport from their country of origin. Please confirm entry requirements before booking with your travel advisor or at the UK government website or Anguilla’s tourism website.

Getting Around Anguilla

For your convenience, we can arrange luxury car or easy van service to collect you from the airport or ferry and drive you in comfort to Spyglass Hill Villa.  Car and van service, including a tour guide, can also be arranged to show you around the island.

Rental Cars
We are happy to arrange car rentals for you and you can collect your car at the airport, ferry terminal or have it delivered to the Villa.  Anguilla is enjoyable and safe to explore, so if you prefer to drive yourselves, we can arrange a rental car, jeep or SUV for you.  Anguilla has one main road that connects one end of the island to the other, with many smaller roads feeding into it.  It takes about 45 minutes to drive its length.  Driving is on the left-hand side of the road and the speed limit is 30 mph.  To drive, you must be 18 years old, show a valid driver’s license from your resident country and purchase a temporary Anguilla driver’s license.  Your rental car company will provide this license for around $25 US.  Children’s car seats can be arranged.  You’ll quickly notice that most businesses and accommodations don’t have detailed street addresses, often just listing their location as “The Valley” or referring to the bay or road on which they are located.  Apps such as Waze and Google Maps are useful on Anguilla.

Taxis
Anguilla taxis are best for short trips as fares can be expensive and extra charges for after 6 pm, additional people and baggage can add up.  Taxis are required to be registered and the rates are set so you can confirm your fare in advance with the dispatcher.  Our concierge can arrange this for you.  Many guests take a taxi from the airport or ferry terminal and then rent a car the following day for the remainder of their trip.
